About Us

Since 1972 the Friends have been working to support the Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center and promote community awareness of the natural world. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, our mission is:

"to further the study and interest in nature by the public and to secure adequate funds for the equipping and operation of a Nature Center for natural and environmental interpretive and educational activities for area residents."

This dedicated group of volunteers provides assistance for the activities, programs, and mission of the Nature Center mainly by supplementing the funds allocated for the Nature Center by the Town of Wethersfield. This financial support enables the facility to diversify, grow and improve and provides for additional staff, programs, and events at the Nature Center.

In addition to fundraising, the Friends also:
  • maintains and grows an active membership
  • pursues relationships with other community groups
  • holds independent events and programs

The direction of the Friends is determined by the 15-member Board of Directors who meets monthly to identify the best way to provide support to the Nature Center. The Board works to ensure both the Nature Center’s future and the continued pursuit of Eleanor's Dream. We encourage Friends, and members of the public, to contribute their ideas, skills, and talents to the group by attending the monthly Board meetings held the third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at the Nature Center.
